Ponaganset Athletic Department's Athletic Philosophy Statement:
Ponaganset High School’s Co-Curricular Interscholastic Athletic Program is an integral part of our educational community and curriculum. Therefore, a comprehensive program of athletic activities is vital to the educational development of every student. As a considerable part of each student’s educational development, Ponaganset Athletics strives to help every young man & woman become the best person, student, and athlete they can possibly be. To fulfill this lofty goal the athletic program provides a variety of experiences to aid in the development of favorable habits and attitudes in students that will prepare them for adult life. These experiences are designed to serve the school, assist in the development of respect for self and others, promote fellowship and goodwill, promote self-realization and all-around growth, and encourage learning the qualities of good citizenship, and school, community, and self pride.
Winning is not the only thing, but to play at a maximum ability level with maximum effort is the goal for every team. Athletics should be fun and at the same time challenging. Individual accomplishments by athletes are naturally gained and heightened when the team focus is maintained. The real team accomplishment is not wins or losses but a unified goal of working hard every day, improving week by week, and realizing the potential of the team and every individual.
Ultimately, the goal of the Ponaganset Athletic Department is to teach our student-athletes to win with grace, lose with dignity, respect their opponents, and set an example of sportsmanship of which the Ponaganset community can be proud.
